MTCH’s second chawan, and the answer to AIR. Where AIR was an argument about air — that working air into the bowl as you whisk is what pulls the flavour of matcha out — SHADE is about the other half of the craft: the weeks of blocked light before the leaf is ever picked, the shading that gives Japanese tea its sweetness and its depth. The colour of the bowl is named for it.
Made from 100% polycarbonate: light in the hand, heat-resistant to 141°C, the same size and volume as AIR, with a handful of details cleaned up along the way. It draws the sweetness and the umami out quickly, and stops short of the bitterness and the dry astringency that come with pulling too hard.
